KPW Named in Four Areas of Law
On October 9, 2026, the Handelsblatt published the ranking“Germany’s Best Law Firms 2026.”It was compiled by the U.S.-based legal publisher Best Lawyers. KPW is listed in the ranking for Baden-Württemberg in four areas of law. These are intellectual property law, IT law, data protection law, and dispute resolution.
How is the ranking of Germany’s best law firms determined?
The ranking is based on a survey conducted from two perspectives. According to the *Handelsblatt*, the rankings incorporate the assessments of more than 10,000 clients and approximately 7,000 lawyers.
Clients evaluate law firms with which they have personally worked. They therefore base their assessments on their own experience with the legal advice provided. Lawyers also name competitors whom they consider to be particularly strong. Here, the outside perspective counts—that is, a law firm’s reputation among those who face it in negotiations and in court.
Best Lawyers identifies the leading law firms based on both of these perspectives. The key factors are the frequency of mentions and the quality of the reviews. The ranking covers 60 areas of law. It includes both large law firms offering a broad range of legal services and specialists in specific areas of law.
What do these four areas of law entail?
These four areas cover the full spectrum of our work advising and representing companies.
- Conflict Resolution. Simply having rights is not enough if you cannot enforce them. For us, this includes cease and desist letters, preliminary injunctions, and proceedings before courts and government agencies—both on behalf of rights holders and on behalf of those facing infringement claims.
- Intellectual Property Law. This term refers to the protection of intellectual creations in the business world. This includes, in particular, trademark law, competition law, design law, and patent law.
- IT Law. This area covers software, AI, digital business models, and the contracts on which they are based.
- Data Protection Law. Companies must ensure that their handling of personal data complies with the law, particularly under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This applies to contracts with service providers as well as websites and internal processes.
Law Firm and Lawyers in the Same Year
Back in June 2026, Handelsblatt and Best Lawyers had already listed two of our lawyers among “Germany’s Best Lawyers 2026.” We reported on this. Clemens Pfitzer was recognized for intellectual property law, IT law, and data protection law. Dr. Markus Wekwerth was recognized for intellectual property law and litigation.
